ABOUT
Hi, I'm Kate Smith! I am a technical game designer currently working on the mobile 4X strategy war game Game of Thrones: Dragonfire at Warner Bros. Games Boston. Previously shipped titles include the mobile CCRPG DC Worlds Collide with Warner Bros. Games San Francisco.
I specialize in programming and storytelling through many different media-from games to film to novels. As a Technical Designer, I thrive in environments where I can implement my own designs to get an immediate feel for what is and isn't working. I have a passion for delving into complex game data systems and emerging with comprehensive documentation to make the project's structure easy for the next person to work with.
After graduating from the NYU Game Center with a BFA in Game Design, my game I WAS HERE won the iThrive Find the Kind Prize at IndieCade in 2018. For three years I worked as a Software Engineer and then Lead Playable Developer at Craftsman+, a NYC-based advertising startup. There, I created over 60 playable minigame ads for mobile games and brands.
While working in NYC from 2018-2023, I also taught programming and game development classes at NYU. In 2021 I joined WB Games, first on their prototyping team ACME Labs, then as a part of the San Francisco studio working on DC: Worlds Collide, and finally joining WB Games Boston to work on Game of Thrones: Dragonfire.
Outside of games, my interests include creative writing, playing guitar and ukulele, LARPing, and collecting medieval weaponry.
